For many years Frank Almquist has flyfished the Esopus Creek as well as collected area postcards. In antique shops he found cards of the Ashokan Reservoir area, the towns that were displaced, then construction postcards. The bug hit, learn more about how the reservoir was built. This talk will use postcard images and other materials to give the story of the Olive Bridge dam construction, the two basins as well as some info on the Catskill aqueduct. Images of some of the towns inundated by the water storage will be shown. In the early 1900s, the Ashokan Dam was the largest construction project on the planet. There are many stories to tell of the basin and the history. How the dam was built, and aqueduct construction, is just one. Free admission.
