Summer Reading at the Library
From June 27th through September 3rd, we want to reward you for being super readers. You fill out your scorecard as you complete reading goals and tasks. As you progress you earn prizes, toys, and books.
Crafts are designed for children to work on independently or with the help of a parent. The recommended age for attendance is four or older unless otherwise specified. Please sign up on our website https://westhurleylibrary.org (Online Calendar) or call the library to sign up 845-679-6405. Seating is limited and preregistration is required.
Preschool Storyhour – Mondays in June and July from 10:00am to 11:00am – Taught by Christine Fiore.
Ready, Set, Go Team – Ages 5-10 – Thursday, July 7th from 6:00pm – 7:00pm -Children will make pennants to cheer on teams and then complete team building activities. Make a bridge from Popsicle sticks, balance a hula hoop in two different activities and possibly more! Taught by Christine Fiore. Register Online
Dan Liebel Reptiles – Thursday, July 14th from 6:00pm-7:00pm – Dan will bring his collection of reptiles including snakes, turtles, and a crocodilian. Dan will help ease people’s fears and give valuable information about these wonderful animals. Register Online
Snapology LEGOs – Saturday, July 16th from 11:00am – 12:00pm – Parachute Build – Children build a village where their pilot will have to make an emergency jump with a parachute that they make. Register Online
American Sign Language Introductory Class – Ages 10 and up – Series of 4 Mondays – July 18th, July 25th, August 1st, and August 8th from 4:30pm – 5:30pm. Free. Come join us for four evenings of fun and learning. If you like to learn new things or have an interest in learning basic American Sign Language, please join us. Instruction will be on the alphabet, manual finger spelling, numbers 1-20, basic ASL signs. Register Online
Onteora Lake Hike – Ages 7 and up – Wednesday, July 20th from 9:30am to 11:00am – We will explore this often overlooked local treasure, and learn about the history, and diverse ecology of this beautiful site. The route selected is 3 miles long, and covers gentle rolling terrain. We will discuss how man has impacted the landscape of this site, from bluestone quarries to blueberry cultivation, and how nature has responded to those impacts. Comfortable and sturdy footwear should be worn, sunscreen, and insect repellant are advised. We will stop at a backcountry campsite for a snack, and discussion of our observations. Yoga, Mandela Paint – Thursday, July 21st from 6:00pm – 7:00pm – Children will learn a few basic yoga positions and then complete a relaxing mandala like craft using paint. Taught by Christine Fiore. Register Online
World Games/Food – Thursday, July 28th from 6:00pm – 7:00pm – Children will play a few games from around the world and even make one to take home! We will share seem snacks from around the world as well so please be sure to notify us of any food allergies. Taught by Christine Fiore. Register Online
Butterflies – Saturday, July 30th from 1:00pm – 2:00pm – We will discuss differences between butterflies and moths, where to find butterflies and how to attract butterflies to our gardens. Children create a butterfly t-shirt. Register Online
