Lost Rondout: A Story of Urban Renewal
In the late 1960s, most of Kingston’s historic downtown Rondout district was demolished in a federally funded urban renewal project, displacing thousands of residents and businesses. Based mainly on hundreds of slides taken by Gene Dauner , Lost Rondout: A Story of Urban Removal commemorates the vanished community, examines the unfulfilled promises of urban renewal and its devastating impact on residents, and describes
urban renewal’s troubled legacy, in a narrative that played out across America. The film, which is just over an hour long and has an original soundtrack by Peter Wetzler, has just been completed.
The filmmakers, Stephen Blauweiss & Lynn Woods, will be available for a Q&A afterwards.
